Summit Of Discord: Copenhagen Summit, Why It Doomed
70Ever since the Copenhagen Summit has finished with results in a hang environmentalist all over the globe are sitting with their fingers crossed. They have right reasons for it; scientists have clearly predicted that if the global temp rise surpass 2 degrees then it would trigger devastating climatic impact. If you analyse the global temp rise u will definitely say”earth is really hot”. Evasive deforestation accompanied by increased emission of green house gases have started showing the effects. Unpredictable rain, unforeseen droughts, devastating hurricanes, deadly summers and freezing winters are common topics for international media.
Is anybody listening to this wakeup call? Or just pretending t be unaware.........
Copenhagen summit has failed miserably till now. UN asked for countries to voluntarily sign the Copenhagen Accord (for implementation of Emission Control Policy) by Jan 31st. Till date only 10 out of 192 participating countries have volunteered to sign it. One can clearly feel the languishing attitude of countries to adopt these measures.
Why did the Copenhagen Summit failed fail, despite having taken so much preliminary measures to make it a success? Let’s analyse some of the broader aspects of its setback
1. Leakage Of the “Danish Text”:- before the Summit started a “Draft Negotiation” was released which had all the points for discussion in the summit. It was presented n all the meetings preceding the summit. Another text also was covertly getting circulated throughout, known as the “Danish Text” but it was somehow leaked to the word media.
Developing countries saw it as a plot by the developed countries to scrap the funding and negotiating without their consent. This event unfortunately broke the mutual trust on which success of the “Summit” rested.
2. “Copenhagen Accord” Not Legally Binding:-nobody knows why but the “Copenhagen Accord” was not drafted to enforce the emission control policies on the countries. the participating 192 countries were given a deadline of 31st Jan to voluntarily sign the “Accord” but making it worse United Nation has also dropped the deadline of 31st Jan for countries to sign the “accord”. Till date only 10 countries have signed it.
3. Gambling By Developed Nations: - it was decide to provide $30bn to poor countries by 2012 to adapt to Climate Change and further aforestation. This amount was to increase to $100bn by 2020. This budget had a clear nodding of G8 countries which had to cut their revenue for this. Also the developed countries were not keen to share their latest Green Technology to other countries.
4. Platform Of Demand by Developing Nations: - as usual the poor and developing nations played their game to bargain for international aid resulting in a shift in focus of talks. It was the place where all nations were to think for cause of humanity and not of individual countries.
5. Global Recession: - it has definitely played its role as a natural hindrance. The shaky economy has given many political leaders a huge jolt that are now not ready to compensate their vote bank by upsetting the life style of their countrymen. And you all will notice all leaders talk of steps beyond 5years... reason they will not be in power that time so they are at will to promise whatever they want.
6. Lack Of Initiative By Big Players: - no deal has ever got finalised without the accord of so called “Big Players” (don’t want to name the countries). in this summit their lack of involvement was very clear although not loud. When the rich and powerful countries held back the developing countries also hid their faces from it. If it would have been attacking some country then these powerful nations would not have spared begging support of country less than size of a football field also.
7. The EU Tactics As Always:-“never go against US” tactics by EU was also played this time. Moreover with EU’s plan for expansion it will never want to implement an emission policy to cut the carbon emission. It would have rather cut the interest of countries joining EU. But EU has taken very firm steps always for a greener earth always.
8. Bad Bad Host: - although Denmark has been an excellent host but this time there were some goof ups which might have caused discontent in the invitees. First the “Draft Negotiation” was given to selected few countries, obliviously annoying the rest. Secondly at the final day 18th Dec, not whole of 192 negotiators were invited. So how can we expect agreement of all the countries??
9. The “Draft” that was documented by US and BASIC Countries (Brazil, South Africa, India, China) on 17th night, just a night before it was finally declared.
10. When the “Copenhagen Accord” was announced it was announced first on TV for the people and most of the participating nations were not even aware of it. This was done to show that they have really struck an agreement where
With No Concrete Deal In Place: What To Expect
Contrary to the common misnomer that “Copenhagen Summit” was the beginning of talks on climate change conference, it was supposed to be the podium where the deal would have been signed by all. This would also have served as an analysis for all countries who have implemented to Kyoto Protocol and Bali Frame Work decided two year ago.
1. There will be no cut in CO2 and Green House Gas emission. As a result we will be inching closer to face the devastating effects of nature until something really big happens shaking the mankind.
2. Wait and watch for 2010, Mexico Summit and pray that it comes out something positive.
3. As the clause to restrict rise in Global Temp at 1.5 degrees and reduce CO2 emission to 80% by 2050 has been abolished, only strong and legally binding laws can protect the planet.
4. No direct aid will be provided to poor and developing countries to adapt the climate change, which means deforestation continues.
5. The next that is taken will also be “a new beginning” as it was in the case of “Copenhagen Summit”. Until some “international Summit” is termed really a Summit / Climax these will remain handicapped to help the planet.
At The End
We as responsible dwellers of this planet can really change the way our planet is taken care of. The solution to Climate Problem doesn’t take 192 counties to participate it only takes one right mind with dedicated mission to bring the change.

Sagarika Rath, hello again. Please help us say thanks to Frogdropping, who is one of the really important Hubbers around here, for helping bring your forum posting and this important Hub to the attention of the intelligent masses. Your forum posting is now being filled with comments.
Sagarika Rath, hello once more. I see you have been busy commenting on the forum, which is great. I have read each of your comments. In the future, when you respond to several comments at once, please either write the name of the person you are responding to (Like: "Sagarika, thanks for your comment...") or use the Quote botton placed on each post you are responding to. You can check it out and experiment a little.
The second solution is also very useful when there is a busy discussion. Sometimes someone else posts while you are writing, then this way everyone can see what you are responding to because the original message will be quoted on top of yours. And sometimes people go back and edit or delete their messages, and in this case it is helpful that people can see exactly what the original text was you responded to.
You are welcome. I have proofread this article. It really had to get done. Please use the contact form on my profile page to send me an email, then I will send you the revised document.

Great article, very informative. We suggest that you have someone proofread it carefully, line by line.
In response to your forum posting, I have asked a question on HubPages about global warming. Several people are responding, that is a kind of spreading awareness isn't it?
